The Village
The main local village is Hirafu, a sleepy little farming village which has sprung to life with the recent surge of powder-hounds and nature-lovers rolling in. The Owashi Lodge sits a mere 100 metres from the main lift and is only a short stroll from all the village action.
With the village's restaurants providing some of the best Japanese food on the planet right through to Thai, Nepalese and good old Western burgers and pasta, there is something to suit every mood and palate. Then sample any of the little bars from the traditional to the truly bizarre before winding your way back to our very own V Bar.
No trip to Niseko is complete without a visit to the onsen – the traditional Japanese hot spring where everyone soaks away the hard work of the day. Most visitors find that this becomes a daily ritual – it’s rather addictive – and you can even take in a cold beer from the vending machine as long as you don’t disturb your neighbours. If the hot water isn’t enough to take you’re aches away, then there are plenty of strong hands versed in the art of massage who certainly can.
On top of the four resorts, there are backcountry tours on everything from snow-shoes to snowmobiles, or day trips to more resorts nearby. Top it all off with a visit to Otaru, Sapporo or the local town of Kutchan to enjoy a side of Japan which you won’t see in Tokyo.
